Clinical Experiences – Examples
(From published articles in clinical journals)
Highly Specific for anti-A/B antibodies:
Minimal influence on other plasma components and minimum of other complications.
Thus, more patient plasma volumes can be treated per session and if necessary more sessions can be performed
Also patients with high titers can be treated to low titers, 1:4 or lower
Specific treatment:
Minimal bleeding, infections and other complications
Lower dose of, or no IVIG required (IVIG contains anti-A/B antibodies)
No substituents, e.g. AB plasma (soluble A/B antigens, other side reactions)
ABO-incompatible LD Kidney Transplants:
Low titer 1:4 or lower, pre-transplant – low frequency of rejection reactions
For example, Stockholm, Freiburg: Adults, excellent results – similar to ABO-compatible LD
Stockholm: Pediatric, also small children, excellent results
Liver, Heart, Lung, Kidney/Pancreas:
Lowering of anti-A/B titer and decrease the risk for rejection
Stem cell transplants: Alternative to hemolysis, multiple transfusions, PE, GVHD
Sterile, clean product, No chemicals added*, Similar infection risk as for ABO-compatible transplants
*Other products may contain e.g. Sodium azide1, a highly toxic and mutagenic substance
1Sodium azide is also used as en explosive
Sodium azide does not protect against for example streptococci and pneumococci
