Research & Innovation
Glycorex’s unique know-how and proficiency in the fields of biologically active carbohydrate substances and extracorporeal blood treatment offer several good possibilities for developing new products and treatment alternatives. Currently, the company is involved in intensive development work in the fields of universal blood products and autoimmune diseases.
Biologically active carbohydrates
The company acquired Glycoprobe AB from Glycorex AB in 2008. In doing so, the company acquired unique know-how and proficiency in the carbohydrate field. Biologically active carbohydrates are found in proteins, cells and organs in the body. They are often receptor substances to which various proteins (for example galectins and blood group-specific antibodies), pathogenic bacteria and virus bind.
Today, Glycoprobe AB’s unique know-how and proficiency is being used in the GTAB group, on the one hand to produce existing active components for the Glycosorb®-ABO columns, and on the other to develop new products in, for example, the fields of universal blood products an of autoimmune diseases.
